Regional planning has always been an important area of work in the hierarchy of planning that cascades from the national, or even the international level as in the case of the EU, through to the local level.
In the UK, we can assist local authorities to prepare forward looking Development Planning Documents (DPDs), and advise private sector clients on the form and content of representations regarding Regional Spatial Strategies, Regional Economic Strategies and Regional Sustainable Development Frameworks.
Internationally, we have the expertise to assist central and local governments and other agencies prepare regional spatial development plans and strategies for sustainable development. For example, in Nigeria we played a key role in a consortium appointed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to prepare an integrated development plan for the Niger Delta Region. We are currently advising the NDDC on the implementation of the development strategy for the region. In Trinidad we were the lead planning consultants preparing a masterplan and strategy for a New Town at Wallerfield, based on the Housing Development Corporation brief to create a town that combines a technical university, an industrial and business park, and a major residential component.
