International Development

Lichfield Planning have a wide range of expertise in airport related development, including both ‘air-side’ and ‘land-side’ within an airport, and airport related development outside the perimeter fence and across the wider surrounding area.

We are currently the appointed Framework Consultants to British Airways on all their strategic and operational town-planning issues.

Our airport related experience started with Dr. Nathaniel Lichfield's evidence to the Third London Airport inquiry and continues in our work over the past 20 years. with British Airways British Airports Authority, British Midlands, and private airport developers.

Dalia Lichfield’s evidence to the call-in inquiry on Waterside – BA’s HQ in the Green Belt near Heathrow – was instrumental in obtaining permission for this state of the art office-community complex. Since then we have, for example, been the lead advisers on the planning aspects of BA’s operational base in Gatwick Airport, prepared applications and gained permissions for numerous changes of use of airlines’ ‘off airport’ office buildings prepared the planning case for the development of new generation hangars and other operational requirements, and had staff seconded to BAA for Terminal 5 planning applications.

Our approach to Airports Impact Evaluation takes account of both the beneficial and the adverse impacts of airport related development and induced development off-site.  on the character of the surrounding area, We assesses the impacts of anticipated growth in employment and in housing needs, of changes in transportation and in the environment and character of surrounding towns, as well as impact on the national and local economy.
