In July 2006, Lichfield Planning and other members of a consortium that included Capita Symonds and CEP, a local civil engineering consultancy, were commissioned by the Housing Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago to prepare conceptual proposals for the development of a new town at Wallerfield, near Port of Spain, Trinidad.
The study area covers an extensive area surrounding a area known as Tamana Park where a high technology business park is being developed and where a new campus for the University of Trinidad and Tobago will also to be located.
The Project Team prepared conceptual but comprehensive development proposals relating to a new town with a population of up to 50,000 persons, which pursued an integrated planning process that:
- identified lands considered appropriate for development
- included conceptual drawings to illustrate the nature, form and scale of development
- proposed an urban design that promoted sustainable development
- provided sound spatial planning arguments to support development, and
- advised on a phasing and implementation schedule
