Nathaniel Lichfield - Lifetime Achievement Award

We are delighted and proud that, in 2004 Nat Lichfield received the RTPI’s first ever Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to many aspects of planning, particularly the economics of planning and development and his introduction of Community Impact Evaluation, described by the RTPI as “an integrated method of evaluation that has become part of the culture”.

In 2006 a number of distinguished practitioners and academics produced a celebratory book to highlight Nat’s contribution to the art and practice of Evaluation in Planning.

Nat’s philosophy and approach as an outstanding practitioner underpins every aspect of our work.

RTPI Award for Planning Achievement - Integrating Environmental Impact into Planning Assessment

Lichfield Planning’s technique of Integrated Planning and Environmental Assessment won an award for ‘Planning Achievement 1991’from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) in recognition of its “contribution to the art and science of town planning in the public interest”. Applied to British Airways HQ at Waterside, the technique brought within a single framework the assessment of physical, environmental, economic and social impacts of a major development, analysed in the same rigour as the then emerging Environmental Impact Assessment, and then compared the distribution of beneficial and adverse impacts on different groups in the community.  As such it preceded the later guidance on Sustainability Assessment and went beyond it by introducing Community Impact Analysis.

RTPI Award for Planning and Restoration - British Airways Regeneration at Harmondsworth

Lichfield Planning was presented with a second RTPI award for its contribution to the integrated planning strategy that delivered a successful regeneration of a wider area in association with British Airways projects.
